Photo Gallery: Marine recruits learn combat skills on Parris Island training course

Recruits polished their newly acquired basic combat training skills on the course and will continue to build on what they learned throughout their Marine Corps careers. Delta Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 13, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. - Recruits of Delta Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, assaulted a combat training course Aug. 23, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C.

Recruits maneuvered over and under various obstacles through the course to test their newly obtained basic combat skills, such as communication and techniques for moving in a combat environment, which they will build upon and use for the rest of their Marine Corps careers. Delta Company is scheduled to graduate Sept. 13, 2013.
