FORT BUCHANAN, Puerto Rico - Army Reserve Col. Jose R. Burgos was confirmed by the US Congress for appointment to the rank of brigadier general and assignment as the commanding general, 1st Mission Support Command, U.S. Army Reserve Puerto Rico.

As the commanding general, Burgos will be the senior Army Reserve officer in the Caribbean region.

Burgos will assume his new position during the month of October at a ceremony at Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, home of the Headquarters, 1st Mission Support Command, US Army Reserve-Puerto Rico.

Most recently Burgos served as the chief, Reserve Affairs Office (Active Guard Reserve), U.S. Transportation Regiment and School, Fort Lee, Va.

He has more than 28 years of service in the Army and Army Reserve in a variety of command and staff positions from platoon to division level, including two deployments to the theater of war.

Burgos holds a bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences, a master's Degree in Business Administration and a master’s Degree in Military History.

While assigned to Fifth Army, he deployed to Kuwait and worked in the planning and execution of the re-deployment of combat, combat support and combat service support units. In June 2005, he deployed again as the 1185th Transportation Brigade deputy commander where his brigade was the single port manager and operator of the Port of Ash Shuayba, Kuwait.

Burgos, from San Juan, Puerto Rico, now resides in South Carolina, with his wife, Haydee.
