CAMP KINSER, Japan - Members of the Kyushu District Depot, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, visited the 3rd Medical Logistics Company, warehouse March 7 at Camp Kinser.

Marines and sailors with the company led the JGSDF members on a tour of the facility and explained the unit’s capabilities.

The company is with 3rd Supply Bn., Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

“We showed the (JGSDF members) not only what we have as far as the medical capabilities but how we employ and deploy those capabilities in support of (operations),” said U.S. Marine Col. Anthone R. Wright, the CLR-35 commanding officer. "It is important for them to see how we (operate) as they (further) their own capabilities.”

The company provides medical supply support through field-level maintenance of medical and dental equipment, and storage of supplies and medical equipment. The tour was also an opportunity for members of the JGSDF and U.S. military to collaborate and discuss readiness for a variety of crises and contingencies.

“It is our mission to prepare for defense operations over (our area of responsibility),” said JGSDF Maj. Gen. Akira Kawasaki, the commanding general of Kyushu District Depot. “For these types of operations, logistical support and preparing medical support is extremely necessary. We can learn from the U.S. forces and their experiences in real combat. This facilitates not only our defensive preparations, but also the cooperation between the U.S. forces and JGSDF.”

Display tables were set-up inside the warehouse, so the visiting service members could get a close-up look at the medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals. The JGSDF members also visited areas used for maintenance and deployment preparation in support of III MEF exercises and operations.

The visit was a great way to share knowledge and further the bond between the JGSDF and U.S. military medical personnel, according to U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr . Rodney Robinson, the commanding officer of the company.

“We can help them with mission capabilities for what they want to do in the future,” said Robinson. “This visit will help them to transfer from a stationary depot to a mobile platform. Anytime we can get together and exchange this type of information, it’s always a good thing.”
