AL TAQADDUM, Iraq – Christopher Titus, a comic from Newark, Calif., and Jennie McNulty, a stand-up comedian from Los Angeles combined skills to bring an uplifting comedy show to troops serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom inside a make-shift gym here Nov. 20.
The event was part of a tour in Western Iraq. During the show, the two comics told a few jokes, met, and signed autographs for more than one hundred service members.
"These are the most rewarding shows I have ever done," said McNulty, 44. "If we could lift your spirits, then we have done our job."
The show began with McNulty's performance. She covered subjects like military slogans and her life as a professional football player in the Independent Women's Football League team The California Quake.
"It is a great feeling knowing that we are being supported," said Sgt. Ernie G. Enriquez, maintenance management supervisor of 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward). "I thought the whole show was awesome and very up-lifting."
McNulty ended her act by thanking the troops for protecting the country.
Titus, known for his hit television show, Titus, on Fox Television Network had people laughing from the start. He shared his trademark stories about his family leaving the members of the audience laughing with every joke.
"It was a great day to sit down for a couple of hours and enjoy a laugh with my fellow Marines," said Lance Cpl. Caleb L. Jones, a member of Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward). "Everybody needed a good laugh to boost morale."
As the act concluded, the audience roared as the veteran comedian shared his gratitude by shouting, "keep fighting the good fight."
"I just want to make (the troops) laugh to give them a thank you from me," said Titus. "I have two little kids and you guys are here making sure that they have a decent life."
