N.C. National Guardsmen Spc. William Johnson and Pfc. Samuel Reel load a simulated casualty into a front line ambulance during this year’s Sapper Stakes at Camp Butner National Guard Training Center in Stem, N.C., Sept. 14. Soldiers were tested on how to evaluate and evacuate casualties as a part of this competition Sapper Stakes competition. At least 140 soldiers were evaluated on engineering skills and warrior tasks.
