Rct. Wesley Clark, Platoon 1093, Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, reviews his rifle data book after firing his weapon Oct. 23, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Recruits such as Clark, a 19-year-old native of California, Md., practiced firing for four days before qualifying on the fifth, shooting approximately 500 rounds throughout the week. Rifle qualification is a graduation requirement for recruits and an annual training event for Marines. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Nov. 27, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. MaryAnn Hill)
