Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Rct. Joseph Hahn, Platoon 1093, Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, sights in on his target before firing Oct. 23, 2013, on Parris Island, S.C. Hahn, a 19-year-old native of Bristow, Va., fired from four different positions - sitting, kneeling, standing and prone - throughout the week leading up to qualification. Rifle qualification is a graduation requirement for recruits and an annual training requirement for Marines. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Nov. 27, 2013. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Lance Cpl. MaryAnn Hill)
