Eleonora Laria Stoian, first secretary at the Romanian Embassy in France, watches Dusan Fischer, a German Marshall Center intern, type information into a computer as Roni Jenko, Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Slovenia, watches during a tabletop exercise governing approaches and strategies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, Nov. 12. The exercise, part of the Program in Applied Security Studies – Capacity Building here, tested a number of areas the 97 participants have been working in since Sept. 26. Hailing from 42 countries, the participants come from the U.S. European Command, U.S. Central Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility. Three other exercises will further test participants on national security strategy, organization and institution building, and a capstone exercise culminating their learning at the Marshall Center. The Marshall Center is a German-American partnership, and is one of five Defense Department regional centers located around the world overseen by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency in Washington, D.C.
