The 105th Engineer Battalion color guard stands fast during a change of command ceremony at Hoke County High School in Raeford, N.C., Jan. 11. The soldiers welcomed a new commander during the ceremony, which signifies a time-honored tradition of the passing of the leadership mantle. The 105th Engineer Battalion command sergeant major, Command Sgt. Maj. William Creech, (rear of the color guard), is the custodian of “the colors” (unit flag). Creech passed the colors to Lt. Col. Rodney Newton, the incoming commander, which also encompassed the passing of the soldier’s loyalty of his command. (National Guard Photo by Sgt.
