Maj. Gen. Greg Lusk, the adjutant general of the North Carolina National Guard, honors Sharon Hightower, councilwoman for the Greensboro City Council, with a plaque during a building dedication at the newly-renovated Joseph T. Carruthers Armory in Greensboro, N.C., on Feb. 8, 2014. Hightower and other influential local leaders have been avid supporters of the renovations for the armory and celebrated the day along with N.C. Guard senior leaders and state and federal political advocates. Hightower remarked how the National Guard helped protect her neighborhood in Greensboro in the late 1960s after the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (U.S. Army National Guard Photo by Sgt.
