Marines with 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, stand in formation during the battalion’s 73rd birthday celebration at Marston Pavilion aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., Mar. 26, 2014. The battalion was activated April 1, 1940, at San Diego, Calif., as the 2nd Battalion, 28th Marines, and assigned to the 2nd Marine Brigade.
