A crowd of needy families await their chance for a sack of freshly butchered beef on Oct. 1, 2008, in the Rashid District of southern Baghdad. Dr. Muayad Hamed, a philanthropist and community leader, donated six cows at three different locations in eastern Rashid. Muayad said he wanted the poor families of east Rashid to have a good meal for the Eid al Fitr, or festivity after the religious month of Ramadan.
