Staff Sgt. David Pena, a section leader from Grand Junction, Colo. and 2nd Lt. Greg Bassett, from Notre Dame, Ind., 1st Platoon leader, both assigned to Troop C, 7th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, recruit Iraqi national police from the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Aburisha (NP), attached to the 7th Bde., 2nd NP Div., to accompany them on a patrol through Abu T'shir, Oct. 11, 2008, to inform local residents about a car bomb attack that occurred the day before killing several Iraqi citizens on Market Street. The Soldiers, working with Abu T'shir Iraqi police and NPs, patrolled the muhallahs using loudspeakers to inform the community of a temporary curfew and encouraging Iraqi residents to support the local Iraqi security forces to maintain security in the predominately Shia community that is home to an estimated 75,000 Iraqis citizens.
