Linda Barnett, mother of Army National Guard Sgt. Jon Stiles, hugs the folded American flag presented to her at her son's funeral at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Nov. 21. Hundreds of Soldiers, Airmen, friends and family members attended the funeral to honor the life and sacrifice of Stiles who was killed, Nov. 13, when an improvised explosive device detonated his vehicle in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Stiles, 38, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., was deployed with the Louisiana National Guard in support of Operation Enduring Freedom when he was killed. Prior to his deployment, he was assigned to the Colorado Army National Guard's Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 157th Field Artillery in Aurora, Colo. He had also served on the Colorado Honor Guard for more than a year. He and his wife Launa would have celebrated their eight wedding anniversary on Wednesday. Launa referred to Stiles as a "Soldier's Soldier."
