The Marine Corps recently updated the uniform order (MCO P1020.34G; Marine Corps Uniform Regulations), requiring Marines to carry specific ear protection while in combat and training environments. According to the U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine, the Combat Arms Ear Plugs muffle gun fire and loud noises, while allowing service members to clearly communicate and hear noises in tactical environments.
