Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island

Drill instructor Sgt. AnaSharon Beaudet gives orders to new recruits of Oscar Company, 4th Recruit Training Battalion, shortly after their arrival at Parris Island, S.C., on April 28, 2014. The recruits' 13-week mission to become Marines had only just begun, but drill instructors such as Beaudet, a 34-year-old from Fairfax, Va., ensure recruits are quickly immersed in the controlled chaos of boot camp. Oscar Company is scheduled to graduate July 25, 2014. Parris Island has been the site of Marine Corps recruit training since Nov. 1, 1915. Today, approximately 20,000 recruits come to Parris Island annually for the chance to become United States Marines by enduring 13 weeks of rigorous, transformative training. Parris Island is home to entry-level enlisted training for 50 percent of males and 100 percent of females in the Marine Corps. (Photo by Cpl. Octavia Davis)
