The littoral combat ship USS Freedom's, commanding officer, Cmdr. Don Gabrielson meets and greets with the commanding officer of the Canadian frigate HMCS St. John's, Cmdr. Brian Costello, aboard the frigate duing a port visit in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Freedom is the first of two littoral combat ships designed to operate in shallow water environments to counter threats in coastal regions and is currently en route to Norfolk, Va.
