A Coast Guard Vessel Assist boat from Newport Beach, Calif., makes a rendezvous April 25 with a recreational craft stranded off the coast of California. USS Dubuque (LPD 8) received the distress call from the two boaters late in the morning. Five crew members from Dubuque assessed the boat and its two crew members, and provided enough fuel to meet the Coast Guard Assist boat that later led the boat to its destination in Newport Beach. Dubuque and the Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group (PEL ARG) are wrapping up CERTEX (Certification Exercise). The exercise is intended to confirm the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and PEL ARG are ready to deploy together later this spring. PEL ARG is composed of USS Peleliu (LHA 5), USS Dubuque (LPD 8) and USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52).
