A Latvian soldier cuts firewood to be used by a local Zvanninieki Alternative Family Home during a community outreach event May 30, 2014, in Vaive, Latvia. Approximately 120 soldiers from 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade based out of Vicenza, Italy, and the 500th Engineer Company, 15th Engineer Battalion based out of Grafenwoehr, Germany, joined allied soldiers from a Latvian engineer company for the day’s community outreach event. Soldiers collected and split firewood, constructed the foundation for a barn, and dug a trench to supply clean water as part of the event, which was organized by the U.S. Embassy in Latvia.
