Survey equipment rests at the peak of an over watch by a beach at Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 16, 2014. More than a dozen Marines from 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II Marine Expeditionary Force conducted a weeklong training mission at the base to test their ability to conduct hydrographic surveys beyond their home station at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The unit’s mission is to plan, direct, collect, produce and disseminate intelligence information to support Marine units. They recently pioneered the hydrographic survey program and traveled to Camp Pendleton as a test of their capabilities beyond their base of operations. The Marines teamed up with members of the Navy’s Naval Oceanography Special Warfare Command during the training as a way to collaborate and share lessons learned from their respective programs.
