Staff Sgt. Christopher Sargent, explosive ordnance disposal team leader with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South, and a native of Yoder, Colo., watches as an MK 2 MTRS (Talon) robot approaches an object during familiarization training aboard the future amphibious assault ship USS America. The Talon allows for explosive ordnance technicians to inspect or disarm improvised explosive devices from a remote and safe location. Sargent is part of a six-man EOD team with SPMAGTF-South tasked with participating in exchanges of military knowledge and tactics ashore with partner-nations in support of America’s maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas.” The ship is scheduled to be commissioned Oct. 11 in San Francisco.
