An MK 2 MTRS (Talon) robot approaches a simulated pressure plate improvised explosive device during explosive ordnance disposal familiarization training aboard the future amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), July 23, 2014. The training exercise consisted of utilizing the Talon to move objects of recognition from one area to another in order to maintain the perishable skillset required of EOD technicians. The six-man EOD team with Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force South is tasked with participating in exchanges of military knowledge and tactics ashore with partner-nations in support of America’s maiden transit, “America Visits the Americas.” The ship is scheduled to be commissioned Oct. 11 in San Francisco.
