David Hale, a veterinarian for the Army Reserve’s 422nd Medical Detachment (Veterinary Services), based in Rockville, Md., operates on a canine patient at the Innovative Readiness Training exercise Appalachian Mountain IRT 2014 in Cumberland, Md., Aug. 13, 2014. Service members from the Navy, Army and Army Reserve are able to train in a joint environment while providing medical care to patients during the exercise.
