One of the youngest patients at Appalachian Mountain IRT 2014 was 2-year-old Shekinah Watkins of Cumberland, Md. Shown here with IRT volunteer Jen Glotfelty, Shekinah was recently issued a new prescription after already receiving her annual pair of glasses. Uncertain how to account for this added cost, Shekinah’s mother Shannon was thrilled to find that she could have the prescription filled by the 3rd MEDCOM team. “We had a perfect experience,” Watkins said. “Everyone was loving, inviting, and glad to help.” And what does Shekinah think? “She just loves them,” Shannon explains. “She already is cute as she could be but these just make her even cuter. They make her look all grown up now! I can’t even tell you what a gift this was to me.” (U.S. Army photo courtesy of Capt. Mark Oherrick /released)
