Willie Hampton, son of a Vietnam Veteran, holds up the American Flag alongside the Patriot Guard Riders at the 9/11 First Responders Remembrance Ceremony at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center Sept. 11. “We recognize the contribution from communities like the Midlands where 54 of our citizens have done their part,” said Maj. Gen. Gill Beck, commander, 81st Regional Support Command. “As we rededicate ourselves to the future we celebrate [knowing] some things that come out of lost is a celebration for human life, our ability to deal with adversity and deal with it in a way that makes us stronger. Because of your family members, we are stronger and we will continue to move forward and never forget what they’ve done.”
