Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) cadets from Hyman G. Rickover Naval Academy stand at attention during the national anthem at Copernicus Foundation Theater here June 10. The cadets were part of the first graduating class from Rickover, a naval academy where all the students are NJROTC members. The NJROTC program, overseen by Naval Service Training Command headquartered at Naval Station Great Lakes, Ill., instills in students from United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment. Rickover Naval Academy is named for Adm. Hyman G. Rickover, known as "The Father of the Nuclear Navy." The mission of Rickover Naval Academy, opened in 2005, is to empower NJROTC cadets to meet and exceed academic standards through a challenging and engaging curriculum that promotes programs to prepare cadets for post-secondary education and independent living.
