Hajime Nakama speaks to ceremony participants before signing a local implementation agreement between Kin Town and Camp Hansen officials Sept. 29 at the Palms on Camp Hansen. The agreement allows Kin Town residents to seek shelter and humanitarian aid on Camp Hansen in the event of a natural disaster. “The tsunami that occurred after the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2012 devastated the coastal region of north eastern Japan and its people,” said Nakama. “This indicated the possibility of the same occurrence to our prefecture, which is surrounded by the ocean, and this also made us realize the importance of having a strong sense of relations.” Nakama is the mayor of Kin Town.
