Marines assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 163 (Reinforced) transport GBU-54 bombs on the flight deck of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) for loading on an AV-8B Harrier jet. Makin Island is the flagship of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and, with the embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, is deployed in support of maritime and theater security operations in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.
