    Capt. David A. Alpar conducts the United States Air Force Band's Singing Sergeants during a performance supporting Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling Commander Navy Capt. Frank May's familiarization tour of the band. A native of Amarillo, Texas, Alpar graduated with honors from the Interlochen Arts Academy at Interlochen, Mich., where he was awarded the "Most Outstanding Brass Player" in 1988. He earned a Bachelor of Music in trumpet performance in 1993 and a Master of Music in orchestral conducting in 1996 from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Alpar entered the U.S. Air Force in October 2001 as an enlisted member of the United States Air Force Band of the West, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and later earned his commission in 2005.
