In preparation for an aircraft shipment, Staff Sgt. Sherlyn Wilson checks the location of pallets on April 18 at Travis Air Force Base, Calif. She is in the elevated transfer vehicle storage and cargo movement area that utilizes motorized rollers and track mounted vehicle to make fast work to retrieve the dozens of pallets that will fill the large-body cargo planes that come in and out of Travis AFB. Sgt. Wilson is with the 55th Aerial Port Squadron. Travis is the leading aerial port for destinations throughout the Pacific. From as far north as Alaska to as far south as the South Pole and to the Far East and beyond, travelers, cargo and support, most often get there from here. During CY08 the Travis team loaded 51,849 cargo tons, 43,486 passengers and supported 5,393 missions. The unit, its flights and people have garnered top awards from command to national defense level.
