Families look on at the Aviation Facility in Santa Fe, N.M., as about 38 New Mexico National Guard soldiers with Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment, take off in a multi-ship UH-60 Black Hawk formation on their way to Kuwait with a stop in Fort Hood, Texas, for some additional training. The unit will perform medical evacuation duties in the Middle East. More than half the soldiers deployed with this unit to Afghanistan 2011-2012 collectively completing more than 1,400 flight hours, rescuing more than 1,800 patients, logging 4,500 flight hours and maintaining 17 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters across five locations.
