An effigy of John Steele is displayed on the front of the church in Sainte Mere Eglise, France. Steele, among the Soldiers of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, who jumped into the town on D-Day, became famous after his chute caught in the tower of the church as he was landing.
