A World War II re-enactor sits outside the church in the center of Sainte Mere Eglise, France, June 2. The tower of the church became renowned when John Steele was caught on its steeple after his parachute was caught as he landed in the town on June 6, 1944. The church also has two stained glass windows dedicated to the paratroopers who liberated the town.
