Capt. Joseph James, the personnel officer for 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Divisions 2nd Brigade Combat Team checks to see which size of flip-flop shoes fit as he hands out the footwear to Iraqi school children at a primary school in the Abu Graib District of Baghdad Oct. 30. Private citizens from the United States donated the flip-flops. Friends and family of the battalion were asking what they can donate to Soldiers over here, James said. So my colonel wrote back saying that we don?t need anymore candy for ourselves, and we have pretty much everything we need. He told them if they wanted to help they should donate shoes to the kids. We see a lot of kids here running around barefoot and with little to wear. In response, American citizens donated over 2,500 pairs of these shoes, among other things, for U.S. Soldiers to distribute among the children they see routinely. (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
