Coast Guard Petty Officer Tommy Harper of Milton, W.Va., reflects back on the events that took place on the morning of June 6, 1944. Harper was a Higgins boat operator or (LCVP) Landing Craft Vehicle Personal, and it was his job to fairy the troops from the ship to the shore. He made eleven trips back and forth that day. After D-Day he was shipped to the Pacific and received three Bronze Stars for valor during the war. Harper's, original boat is now part of the museums located on Utah Beach.
