Sailors aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) man the rails as the ship returns at its homeport of Naval Base San Diego. Makin Island is the flagship of the Makin Island Expeditionary Ready Group and, with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, returned to homeport following a seven-month deployment to the Western Pacific and U.S. Central Command areas of operation.
