150223-N-YM718-044 JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii (Feb. 23, 2015) – For the first time in over a decade, sailors assigned to the Weapons department aboard the submarine tender USS Emory S. Land (AS 39) wheel a Mark 48 Advanced Capability (ADCAP) torpedo during onloading to secure it in the ship’s magazine during a weapons handling evolution. The Emory S. Land primarily serves as a forward-deployed expeditionary submarine tender conducting coordinated tended moorings and afloat maintenance on surface ships and submarines in the U.S. 5th and 7th Fleet areas of responsibility. Through this recent torpedo handling evolution the Emory S. Land is serving as a mobile armory to the submarine fleet in the Pacific.
