Cpl. Scott Ostrom, a 21-year-old from Plantation, Fla., checked through an Iraqi's truck during snap vehicle checkpoint while on a "knock-and-talk" patrol in Zaidon, Iraq. Ostrom and his Marines patrolled the region south of Fallujah, Iraq, gathering information on trouble spots. One such tips led to the Marines uncovering a buried insurgent sniper rifle later in the day. Ostrom is assigned to B Company, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team 5.
