An Idaho Army National Guard Soldier guides a Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) leaving the staging area at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif., signaling the start of a 12-day field training exercise, Aug. 14. The two-week event gives Soldiers an opportunity to put their skills and experience to the test in a deployment simulation. This training cycle is the first force-on-force, high-intensity conflict rotation the National Guard has participated in since the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom, and is composed of more than 5,200 Soldiers from 11 states’ National Guard units, the U.S. Army Reserves, and active duty U.S. Army Soldiers.
