ARABIAN GULF (Aug. 21, 2015) Legalman 1st Class John Detty uses a Mechanical Advantaged Control Hold (MACH) while under the effects of oleoresin capsicum spray to subdue the “Redman” during a Security Reaction Force (SRF) training course in the upper vehicle storage of Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Essex is the flagship of the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and, with the embarked 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is deployed in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
