U.S. Army Spc. Michael Thompson, a Connecticut Army National Guard Soldier, from 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment, assigned to Multinational Battle Group-East, is awarded the gold German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge Sept. 13, 2015, at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo. To earn the badge, Soldiers must complete in the 100-meter swim while wearing their full duty uniform in under four minutes, and also compete in events testing their marksmanship, physical fitness and ruck march for endurance. Conducting joint training with other multinational forces while deployed to Kosovo, establishes one of the main lines of effort for the multinational battle groups conducting peacekeeping missions under NATO authority.
