Children of Holy Family Home sit on the lap of Army Sgt. Maj. Michael I. Bair, senior enlisted adviser for U.S. Army Japan's (USARJ) chaplain section, during a bilateral holiday visit to this historic orphanage in Osaka, Japan, Dec. 2, 2015. Bair and service members from USARJ and the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force helped the children, volunteers and staff members of Holy Family Home celebrate the holidays with music, games and gift giving. Holy Family Home’s relationship with the U.S. Army began Christmas Day, 1949, when Soldiers from the 27th Infantry Regiment—better known as the Wolfhounds—visited the home to give gifts to the children. Today many Soldiers from the 27th Infantry Regiment regularly visit Holy Family Home, while families from the Wolfhound community sponsor several children for what is a likely a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Hawaii.
