U.S. Army (from left to right) Spc. Jordan Beckwith an infantryman from the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, Sgt. Michael Sinko and retired Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Casper both past infantryman from the 502nd, 2nd Brigade Combat Team “Strike” stand beside the Gander Memorial remembrance wreath in front of the memorial, during a ceremony at Fort Campbell, Ky. on Dec. 12, 2015. Beckwith is holding the colors from the 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment. The ceremony honored the 248, 3rd Battalion Soldiers who lost their lives in a tragic plane crash in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada on Dec. 12, 1985. The Soldiers were returning from a six-month peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula. The ceremony marked the 30th anniversary of this tragedy. Sinko and Casper are wearing special period uniforms very similar to the ones they wore when they deployed on the peacekeeping mission to the Sinai in the mid-1980’s. They come back each year on the Gander anniversary to honor the sacrifices of their friends and brothers-in-arms that they lost in 1985. (U.S. Army Photo by Sam Shore/Released)
