U.S. Army retired Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Casper an infantryman speaks to Pvt. Luke Berggren an infantryman, both from the 2nd Brigade Combat Team (502nd Infantry Regiment) “Strike” at the Gander Memorial site, during a ceremony at Fort Campbell, Ky. on Dec. 12, 2015. The ceremony honored the 248, 3rd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment Soldiers who lost their lives in a tragic plane crash in Gander, Newfoundland, Canada on Dec. 12, 1985. The Soldiers were returning from a six-month peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula. The ceremony marked the 30th anniversary of this tragedy. Casper is wearing a special period uniform very similar to the one he wore when he deployed on the peacekeeping mission to the Sinai in the mid-1980’s. He comes back each year on the Gander anniversary to honor the sacrifices of his friends and brothers-in-arms that he lost in 1985. (U.S. Army Photo by Sam Shore/Released)
