Five Marines from 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5, were awarded the Purple Heart Medal. General Michael W. Hagee, commandant of the Marine Corps, personally pinned the medals on the wounded Marines. The enlisted Marines were wounded in action while fighting the War on Terrorism in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.
