Maj. Bennet W. Walsh, relenquished command of Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5, fifteen days prior to a medical deadline to have cancer surgery. Walsh, 36, from Springfield, Mass, was notified of the cancer while in Kuwait, waiting to cross into Iraq. He pushed his personal health concerns aside to lead his men into combat operations in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq.
