Maj. Bennet W. Walsh is leaving 1st Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5, to return stateside for cancer surgery. Walsh commanded Weapons Company here and when word reached him in Kuwait that he had cancer, while the Marines were waiting to cross the borders into Iraq, he pushed his health aside to lead his Marines into combat. Walsh is 36, from Springfield, Mass.
