Matthew Eaton speaks to the crew about the unsung heroes of African-American heritage during an African-American history month observance ceremony held on board the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). More than 100 Sailors attended the observance to reflect on the struggles and achievements of African-Americans. America is currently undergoing a post-shakedown availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and assigned contractors make improvements to the ship’s design.
