Baze, commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), describes the modifications done to the ship’s flight deck to U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. David Coffman, deputy commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force, before a scheduled ship tour. America is currently undergoing a post-shakedown availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and assigned contractors make improvements to the ship’s design.
