Baze, commanding officer of the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), describes the modification done to the ships hangar bay during a scheduled tour with U.S. Marine Corps Brig. Gen. David Coffman, deputy commanding general, I Marine Expeditionary Force; U.S Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Bradford Gering, deputy commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command; and Rear Adm. Bryant Fuller, deputy commander, Ship Design, Integration and Naval Engineering Naval Sea Systems Command. America is currently undergoing a post-shakedown availability (PSA) in which the ship’s crew and assigned contractors make improvements to the ship’s design.
